Porthcurno offers both, beach and rock fishing for the angler and over the years many fine fish have been caught.
The beach is very good for the Bass at the right time of the year and I have heard of plaice being caught as well. Sand eel and lug worm are the baits to try and live sand eel can be very successful.
The rocks to the right are also good for the flatties and if you cast towards the beach Bass are very possible, especially at night.
From the rocks you will catch Mackerel, Garfish, Pollack, Wrasse, Mullet, Bass, Plaice, Flounder, Dab, Scad, and the occasional Sole. Although I have not tried, it is possible that Conger can be fished for from the rocks below the Minack Theatre as I have had Rockling on the bottom at night.
When going to Porthcurno, you should take mackerel, sand eel, rag worm and lug worm. It is always wise to have a good selection of baits and Mackerel and Pollack can also be caught on tinsels here. Fresh mackerel caught by this method is very handy for extra bait and it is possible to catch a specimen to weigh.
As I stated in my previous article on Mullet fishing, Porthcurno can be a very good place to try. Half way along the rocks you will see a set of steps going down which you can fish from. There is a sewer out fall but it will be necessary to shervey as well to attract the fish. I have had Mullet on bread, mackerel and worm from this spot and it is a matter of experimenting with the different baits. If the Mullet are not there on the day you can have some fun with the Mackerel and the Garfish. Pollack will also come in for the shervey and I have even had the odd Bass. I will not go into the methods for mulleting in this article but assure you that it is well worth the effort if they are there on the day.

Leo Brown above caught this nice mullet in the Porthcurno area.
Above I am pictured with a Cuckoo Wrasse and on the left a nice Ballan Wrasse that weighed a fantastic 6-8-1 also caught in the Porthcurno area.
